Grace History Highlights

Grace Lutheran Church began with the merger of Emmanuel Lutheran, Maple Grove Rd, and Calvary Lutheran, Miller Trunk Hwy. On June 2, 1963, a service to merge Emmanuel Lutheran Church (LCA) and Calvary Lutheran Church (ALC) was held at the Calvary site.

A building committee was appointed in September, 1969 to study the needs of the church and bring recommendations for expansion. In 1970, architects were hired and authorized to proceed with expansion plans and bonds were issued. Groundbreaking services were held on March 7, 1971. The building project completed the sanctuary. A fellowship hall, kitchen and education area were all located on the lower level. The original building became classrooms, offices, and a library. A dedication service was held on December 5, 1971.

In 2004, a building committee was appointed to address the needs of a growing congregation and accessibility for events on the main level. The removal of the east side of the church was done and a new addition built that included: a new community room, a Fireside Room, Youth Room, Library, offices and restrooms. The addition was completed and a dedication service was held on April 10, 2005.

On Sunday, May 19th, 2013 Grace Lutheran celebrated its 50th Anniversary Year. The history highlights here were taken from the spiral-bound book, “Grace Lutheran Church: The First 50 Years: 1963-2013”, created for that 50th anniversary event. Note: the commemorative book is available to view in the Grace Library.
